what's our impact

At Ubuntu Mundo, impact means more than numbers—it means nourishing children today, while building systems that last.

We measure success by our ability to serve more meals, in a way that’s financially and environmentally sustainable.

Our impact

Right now we feed 800 children daily, and we are growing. By 2028, our goal is to serve 10,000 children each day. The local need is dire, and we plan to meet that need. To achieve this, we are also growing our commercial farm to keep pace with our meals program, expanding to 30-hectares. The farm is a social enterprise where 100% of profits feed children.

Social Return On Investment

Our Goal by 2028:
To serve 10,000 children daily with hot, nutritious meals.
Achieve full self-sustainability through a 30-hectare commercial farm that funds our feeding programs and creates jobs.

This is how we break the cycle of hunger—not just by feeding children today, but by building an operation that sustains itself, that generates revenue that feeds the future.

In 2024 the (social) return on investment for the commercial farm is XX%. At this rate, the capital recovery period of the investment is around 2 ½ years. In other words, the invested capital would have lasted 2 ½ years to serve XXXX children daily.

Committed to SDGs

No Hunger – SDG 2

Current Situation
Food is the most basic of human needs. A new UNICEF report reveals that South Africa is one of 20 countries that account for 65% of all children living in severe child food poverty globally. Of particular concern is that 23% of children in South Africa are classified in that category and are at risk of life-threatening malnutrition and related health complications.

Impact
Ubuntu will provide a daily sustainable meal to 1,500 children by the end of 2025. The goal is to increase that number to 10,000 children by the end of 2028.

According to UNESCO, feeding programs deliver $9 return for $1 invested, a 800% return over the life-time of a child. Benefits in terms of health, wellbeing, educational performance, and future opportunities.
No Poverty – SDG 1

Current Situation
South Africa knows 3 poverty lines:
• Food Poverty: R760/person ($41.09 or $1.37/day)
• Lower Bound Poverty: R1,058/person ($57.19 or $1.90/day)
• Upper Bound Poverty: R1,558/person ($84.22 or $2.80/day)
Living Wage: R5,354 – R8,692 (family of 4.5 and 1.64 workers, basic to decent).

55% of the population lives below the poverty line, with 25% of people experiencing chronic food insecurity.

Impact
After a successful pilot program in 2023, Ubuntu established a 7-hectare commercial farm yielding a __% profit margin in 2024. Continued profits will be used to fund meals for children and to reinvest in our social enterprise, sustaining our programs into the future. Our goal is to expand our commercial farm to fund future growth of our feeding program.

Between all locations, Ubuntu has 28 full-time employees. And has provided more than 150 temporary jobs.
Full time employees increased their family income by at least 50%.
Our workers make a basic living wage.
